Zimbabwe has 16 official languages; the most widely spoken of these are English, Shona and Ndebele/Zulu. The country has a current population of around 14.7 million.

Shona is the main language in Zimbabwe and over 80 per cent of the population (over 9 million people) speak Shona. It’s a Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo language family in Zimbabwe and is one of the most widely spoken Bantu languages. There are also speakers in Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana.
