Polish is a Western Slavonic language with about 40 million speakers mainly in Poland. There are also substantial numbers of Polish speakers in Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the UK, the Ukraine, the US, Romania, Russia and Slovakia (among many other countries).

Polish is closely related to Kashubian, Lower Sorbian, Upper Sorbian, Czech and Slovak. Poland’s population to date is approximately 40 million. English is also widely spoken in Poland, especially by younger people, and the next most common language spoken is German, with Spanish and Italian gaining popularity in recent years. The Polish language stands out from other Slavic languages due to the fact that it is based on a modified Latin alphabet, rather than the Cyrillic alphabet.
