Slovakian is a Western Slavonic language (and a subgroup of Indo-European languages) spoken mainly in Slovakia. It is also spoken in Canada, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Ukraine and the USA, taking the number of people speaking it worldwide to around 6 million. Slovakian is closely related to Czech, Polish and Sorbian.
Slovakian contains four major dialects; Eastern, Central, Western, and Lowland – although the Lowland group is technically considered a subgroup of the Western and Central dialects.
